The Bad Dudes remixers

THE BAD DUDES

Helmed by Mustin, the Bad Dudes consist of some of the sickest veterans in the remixing scene.

OCRemix music

OVERCLOCKED REMIX

Where it all started, OCReMix - led by DJ Pretzel - is a main hub for free releases, remix projects, albums, and a vast community full of video game music lovers... like yourself. :)

OneUp Studios

ONEUP STUDIOS

Founded by Mustin and Dale North, OneUp Studios were among the first to release official remix albums, properly licensed and released, printed on CD, all that jazz. They're also the base of the band The OneUps, who not only release incredible remix albums as performed by live performers, but I gotta say, they're incredible in concert as well. :)

---

On a side note, I also have my music in the following vide games:

The 7th Guest: Infection

THE 7TH GUEST: INFECTION

If you've played the original 7th Guest video game, then you're likely familiar with the microscope puzzle. This right here is the return of that puzzle, developed into its own little game for the iPad. And, since it was clear that I was familiar with the music and the style (since I remixed the original microscope theme on the American Album), I got the job of creating original music in a similar style for the game!

The 7th Guest: Infection

SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2 HD REMIX

An HD release of a classic title (now available for download, I might add). During development, the guys at Capcom who were familiar with OCR decided to contact us about actually using remixed music, in the remixed game. Made sense to us, and on my end I put together a revised version of my classic Sagat's Moonbike for the game.

The 7th Guest for iPad

THE 7TH GUEST (iPad version)

The classic puzzle game from 1993 is back on the iPad... beat it, and you get to hear a Mazedude remix as the end credits play. :)

---

And on yet another side note, I have my VOICE in the following games:

Missile Master iPad game

MISSILE MASTER

My buddy Kunal Majmudar got the job of doing the music for this groovy little iPad game, and asked me to help out with the over-the-top cheesy intro story and voice work. It was fun. :)

Check out the other remixes section to hear a Mazedude remix of one of Kunal's themes as well!

Pelt the Pundits political Flash game

PELT THE PUNDITS

A silly little Flash game (although quite well programmed by my friend Zen-Axis) where you get to throw tomatoes at politicans. I got to provide my impressions of Arnold Schwarzenegger, George W. Bush, Al Gore, and several others.

---

You want more, eh? Well, while they have nothing to do with my music, I actually got to work on the motion capture for the following games, back when I was working as a stuntman in Los Angeles.

Quantum of Solace video game

QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Are you a James Bond? Perhaps only a first person shooter fan? Then you'd enjoy this one. I own it and have beaten it a few times. As far as motion capture goes, most of the work I did on this was for a big cinematic fight that sadly never made it to the final game. It was the whole "Bond's first kill" bit from Casino Royale, but once the movie came out it was edited down to quick flashbacks, so in the end wasn't warranted as a worthy level in the game. But, I also got to play some generic bad guys, do some explosion reactions, stuff like that too.

See more on my Motion Capture demo reel.

Spiderman 3 video game

SPIDERMAN 3

My first mo-cap gig inside the suit! Did a whole bunch of background action (pedestrians, people on benches, bystanders, etc), a bunch of evil henchmen stuff, and even one Spiderman stunt. Although for most of the Spiderman stunts they got Colin Follenweider, the guy who actually did the stuntwork in the movie... so I couldn't really compete with him.

Pimp My Ride video game

PIMP MY RIDE

Yep... I worked on this game. Oddly enough it showcases some of my flashiest mo-cap work, as I did a whole bunch of breakdancing stunts, tricks, and flips for the "ghost-ride-the-whip" portions of the game. I also coordinated auditions and all the cut-scene actors... quite a lot of work for a rather silly game. Had fun though. :)

True Crime NYC the video game

TRUE CRIME: NEW YORK CITY

I wasn't actually in the suit on this one, but did assist in the choreography, rehearsals and move planning, and casting. Got to work with the very talent Ray Park on this one, as well as fellow martial artists Orlando McGuire, Anthony Arcuria, and Kofi Yiadom.

Check out the YouTube video of our martial arts mo-cap shoot days!

Psychonauts and Grim Fandango Remixes

God of War music remixesOn the off-chance that you stumbled across this particular album and aren't familiar with the video game remixing scene, but would love to hear more... well, here are a bunch of other video game remix projects that I've contributed to that you'll probably enjoy!

(Incidentally there are also a great many projects I've arranged tracks for that aren't yet offiically released, so I'm sure I'll be updating this page from time to time.)

Bad Dudes vs Overclocked Remix in Heroes vs Villains

"Heroes vs. Villains"

presented by The Bad Dudes and Overclocked ReMix

An epic project, Heroes vs. Villains put the veterans of OCReMix head to head against the Bad Dudes in a remix "battle", if you will. The OCR guys took on the hero themes, the Dudes took on the corresponding villains. So for example Big Giant Circles of OCR remixed the Samus theme(s) from Super Metroid, and I countered with a drum 'n bass rendition of the Mother Brain theme.

Kunal Majmudar and I co-directed this puppy, and after a year of tricky coordinating and developing this monster, it was released as a huge success. Now available at hvv.ocremix.org for FREE!

Bad Dudes remix game jingles in Jingle All the Way

"Jingle all the Way"

presented by The Bad Dudes

This EP was my idea, and yes, I know that it's an experimental one. The notion was to choose some of the shortest themes in video game history - the jingles - and turn them into fully explored compositions. From a composer's perspective this is a groovy idea and challenge... from a listener's perspective, I'll admit that an open mind is helpful.

Map themes, death jingles, "get item" riffs... we've turned them into full releases for you to enjoy. On my end, I arranged the death jingle from Castlevania into a jazz diddy, and the map jingle from Ghosts n' Goblins into some bizarre synthfunk. Enjoy.

The Bad Dudes present Chronotorious

"CHRONOTORIOUS"

presented by The Bad Dudes

Do you like the music of Chrono Trigger. Then you'll dig this project.

Mustin, Dhsu, Tim Sheehy, Ailsean, zyko, Danimal Cannon, posu yan and the rest of us had a blast assembling the Chrono Trigger music originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda into this official album. While most of the guys led with some serious chillout goodness, I had to be the oddball again and instead chimed in with some ethnic, tribal strangeness inspired by James Horner's soundtrack to Apocalypto... turning what was the Tyran Castle theme into "Tyrannosaurus."

DKC2 music

"DKC2: SERIOUS MONKEY BUSINESS"

presented by OCReMix

A very fun project, spanning the entire soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 2. Two discs worth of goodness in all genres.

Me, well, I came on board late in the project, and with only a few original tracks available for arranging, I chose the very short Bad Bird Rag mini-boss theme. From time to time I like the musical challenge of taking a very short piece of music and developing it into a full composition, and this is a prime example of that.

FF4 music remixed

"FINAL FANTASY IV: ECHOES OF BETRAYAL, LIGHT OF REDEMPTION"

presented by OCReMix

I'll admit, I'm not a die-hard Final Fantasy gamer. Me, I liked the originals better than the later ones, and FF4 was my favorite of the bunch. So when I was invited to arrange a track for this project, I was all over it.

Then of course, cause it's me, I had to go all experimental with it. I chose the "Welcome to Our Town" theme and arranged it to be presented entirely by sine waves. That concept alone is vastly more difficult than it sounds, but I love the way it came out.

Incidentally following the release, Analoq created an extremely cool animated video to the remix as well, check it out on YouTube.

Castlevania SOTN music

"CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT: RESURRECTION"

presented by the Bad Dudes

Joshua Morse coordinated this bad boy, and if you're a fan of Castlevania music then you'll love it.

Me, I used the project as an opportunity to do a tracker homage (something I do from time to time), and arranged the "Door of Holy Spirits" theme in the style of Drax, a tracker I grew up admiring.

Sagat theme remixed

"THAI GUY"

presented by the Bad Dudes

This one was the joint concept of Kunal Majmudar and Dale North, and I admit that it took some convincing before I was interested in contributing. The notion was to present an entire EP constructed of nothing more than Sagat remixes. I'd already done one, so I wasn't too keen on doing another. But, they talked me into it, and I really enjoy my "Alone with Tiger" track I put together, both as a Mick Rippon style homage and a nod to the Bloodsport soundtrack by Paul Herzog.

Again it's a project that may be more accessible to fellow musicians than to the average listener, but, give it a listen yourself and make up your own mind. :)

Doom 2 remix project

"DOOM 2: DELTA Q DELTA"

presented by OCReMix

The Orichalcon put this project together... and if you've followed my early work, you'll know that I did a lot of Doom 2 remixes early in my "career." So when it came time for an album, of course I signed up.

My contributions include a hip-hop fusion remake of the "Message of the Archvile" theme (Map 20), a Silent Hill soundtrack mimic of the Map 2 theme, originally "The Healer Stalks," and finally an industrial rock take on the "Endgame" theme.

Bound Together remix project

"BOUND TOGETHER"

presented by Joe Cam

Huge props to Joe Cam for pulling this one off. As the title implies, this is a collection of remixes from the game Earthbound, and doubles as a "binding together" of remixers from all different factions -- Overclocked Remix, Bad Dudes, OneUp Studios, VGMix, and more.

And as you may know, the original Earthbound music is pretty darn strange... so it's a great fit for me from a remixing perspective. Contributions include "See Sixty Funk" -- a C64 style remix of the Cave 2 theme, "Zombie Lounge" -- a trippy chillout take on the zombies theme, and "Valley Gremlins" -- a silly chamber orchestra take on the Saturn Valley theme.

Super Dodge Ball - No Balls, No Glory

"NO BALLS, NO GLORY"

presented by the Bad Dudes

I think this was the first time we as the Bad Dudes put together an official album to coincide with a major release. As it was, the first Super Dodge Ball game for NES came out in 1989 (and as a kid, I LOVED it). Then when 2008 rolled around, the guys at Aksys Games were gearing up to do a remake, so... we joined forces and released a remix album at the same time. :)

Mustin threw us a curveball on this one (pun intended), and had each remixer arrange according to his nationality. And me being the all-American remixer, I tackled the USA All-Stars theme. Gave it a doskpop edge. Good stuff.

Earthworm Jim Anthology

"EARTHWORM JIM ANTHOLOGY"

presented by Tommy Tallarico

Tommy Tallarico, now a major video game icon and a recognizable name across the industry. But early on, he was making a name for himself as a composer, and the Earthworm Jim titles were a huge leap in the right direction. So, years later, he releases the Anthology of selections from the soundtrack as an album.

And since I included a few Earthworm Jim remixes in my American Album (which Tommy was a huge supporter of), he has thus included them as tracks on the CD. :)

Zombies Rocked My Neighbors EP by the Bad Dudes

"ZOMBIES ROCKED MY NEIGHBORS"

presented by the Bad Dudes

The 2nd EP ever presented by the Bad Dudes, this was a quickie that we put together for Halloween. The goal was to write something both scary and kickass.

My contribution is a Henry Mancini-esque take on the "Censors Unleashed" theme from Psychonauts.

Bad Dudes first EP

"BAD DUDES EP # 1"

presented by the Bad Dudes

The very first Bad Dudes EP... before we had even really coined the group as an ensemble, this was mainly Mustin asking those of who had contributed to the various OneUp Studios projects to come together for a quick kickass EP. Didn't matter what we wrote, so long as it was good. Just a fun reason to get more music out there.

My contributions include an industrial waltz of a God of War remix, and a slow and deliberate Rygar remix.

Heavy Troopa is ready to launch

"HEAVY TROOPA IS READY TO LAUNCH"

presented by Game Music 4 All

The guys at Game Music 4 All contacted me about doing a Super Mario RPG remix. And since ironically in all my remixes I have very few of Mario anything, I agreed. And to challenge myself, I picked the "Docaty Mountain Railroad" theme, a happy tune. After doing so many dark, electronic and industrial tracks, I wanted to show that I can do happy stuff too. :)

The result is "Flubber Mountain" which you can grab from mazedudemusic.com; a fun piece inspired by Danny Elfman's Flubber soundtrack, with some tracker inspiration by Tito as well.

Xenogears Light

"XENOGEARS LIGHT"

presented by OneUp Studios

The idea with this one was to create a soft, pretty album, via arrrangements from the Xenogears soundtrack. Light music that you could relax to, get a massage to, and so on.

To my chagrin, I tried to challenge myself by taking the "Grahf: Emperor of Darkness" bad guy theme and make it pretty... and honestly I don't really think I succeeded. But apart from that, the album as a whole is still pretty good.

Project Majestic Mix: Squaredance

"PROJECT MAJESTIC MIX: SQUAREDANCE (Limited Edition)"

presented by OneUp Studios and KFSS Studios

Man, now we're really going back in time... this is the second ever official arranged album by the community that came out, and the first project with the OneUp Studios name on it. Sadly my track only made it to the second disc of the Limited Edition (which is now really hard to find), and by today's standards was not the greatest production quality... but is somehow still an iconic piece in its own right. Mechanicalcobrena. An industrial waltz.

The American Album by Mazedude

"THE AMERICAN ALBUM"

presented by Mazedude

I've mentioned it already on this site, so I won't beat a dead horse... but yep, this was my album release of 2006, the first ever tribute to the American video game music composers. Remixed music from Earthworm Jim, the 7th Guest, Grim Fandango, the Myst series, Global Gladiators, Commander Keen, Doom, and more.

'Twas a success, and the website you're on right marks the development of the next chapter in my American saga: American Pixels.
